Zelotes means in the bible: The Zealot. Simon is the name of one of the Twelve Apostles Luke 6.15, Acts 1. Matthew and Mark refer to him as “the Cananean”, not Canaanite, like in the KJV. This is a form of an Aramaic term Kanan. Zelotes in Greek is Zealot’s English equivalent. Zealots are a group of Jews who, because they were so passionate about the law and determined to fight any foreign power in Palestine, were called the Zealots.
