Takayasu disease means: Takayasu Disease: Chronic inflammatory disease of the heart and aorta. It is not known what caused it. This disease affects young Asian women and typically begins in the ages of 10-30 years. The symptoms include dizziness and headaches as well as tender, cold, or blanched extremities. High blood pressure can be common. High blood pressure may indicate inflammation by a high sedimentation rate or sed rate. Angiograms of the arterioles are used to confirm diagnosis. When necessary, corticosteroids or immunosuppressive medications are used to treat the disease. Also called Takayasu Arteritis, Martorell Syndrome; Pulseless Disease; and Aortic Arch Syndrome.
