Rate, sedimentation means: The blood test for monitoring and detecting inflammation is called rate, sedimentation. This test measures how quickly red blood cells (RBCs) in a tube separate from blood serum. Over time the sediment forms in the tube’s bottom. With more inflammation, the sedimentation rate will increase. Also known as the erythrocyte-segregation rate. Also known as the sed rate, or ESR.
