QALY means: QUALITY ADDED LIFE YEAR: A year that has been adjusted to improve its quality and/or value. A year of perfect health equals 1.0 QAL. A year of poor health is considered to be worth less than 1.0 QALY. A year spent in bed might be worth 0.5 QAL.
