Partial laryngectomy means: Partial laryngectomy is a surgical procedure that removes part of the vocal cords and preserves the voice. A surgeon will remove a portion of the vocal box, such as one or more cords, the epiglottis, and leave the remainder. The stoma opening into the trachea is usually temporary. The tracheostomy tube will be removed after a short recovery. After a short recovery period, the patient is able to breathe normally and can talk as usual. Sometimes, though, the patient may have a hoarse voice or a weakening of their voice.
