Jamnia means in the bible: Yavneh and Javneh are also possible. A small town near Joppa was where a council made the decision to complete the Old Testament canon in A.D.90. The measure may have been partly defensive due to the growing number of Christian books. This council decided on the Old Testament canon, which was later known as the Masoretic Text.
