Hazael means in the bible: From 886 B.C. to 840 B.C., King of Syria In the lives of Elijah, Elisha and others 1 Kgs. 19:15, 17; 2 Kgs. 8:8-14. By killing his master Benhadad, he became King. 2 Kgs. 8:15, and immediately began a war against Israel and Judah to take Ramoth–gilead. 8:28–29 and 9:14-15. According to Assyrian inscriptions, he was defeated at Damascus in Damascus under Shalmaneser the king of Assyria. However, he returned strong enough to strike Israel two years later 2 Kgs. 10:32; 12:17-18; 13:3-7, 22; 2 Chr. 24:24.
