Ectropion means: Ectropion is a condition where the eyelids are turned away from the eyes. Most commonly, the lower lid is affected. The inner eyelid surface can be exposed, causing irritation or infection. Dry eyes can cause dryness, irritation, light sensitivity, excess tear production and gritty eyes. Ectropion can also be accompanied by reddening of the eyes and inflammation in the outer and lining tissue of the eyeball. Ectropion can occur as part of normal aging, or it may also be a result a birth defect, facial palsy, scar tissue or normal aging. The use of artificial tears can relieve the symptoms. Surgery to tighten the eyelid muscles may be an option.
