Dercum disease means: Dercum disease is a condition that causes painful, fatty tumors under the skin. These diseases are more common in women than in men and tend to be linked with obesity. The onset of the symptoms usually occurs in middle age. This condition is also known as adiposis Dolorosa. It affects the trunk, limbs and face with little or no involvement in the hands and faces. This is named after Francis X. Dercum, a Philadelphia neurologist 1856-1931.
