Dead Sea means in the bible: Also called the Salt Sea. It is located at the Jordan Valley’s southern end, measuring 53 miles in length and 9 miles wide. The salt sea has a maximum depth of 1300 feet, while its average surface thickness is 1290 feet. The Jordan River and several other streams supply it with water. It has no outlets except for evaporation. The water is extremely bitter because of all the minerals that are brought down by the streams. The scene of God’s judgement on the cities in the plain is captured at its shores: Sodom and Gomorrah as well as Admah and Zeboim. See Gen. 14; 19; 25; Deut. 29:23. 29:23
