Cancer, larynx means: There are three anatomical areas in the larynx. They are, from top to bottom: the supraglottis (which contains vocal cords), and the glottis (which includes the vocal chords). As the supraglottic region is rich in lymphatic drainage, half of those with supraglottic cancers have already had metastases of their tumors to other lymph nodes. Lymphatic vessels are absent from the vocal chords, so cancer that is confined to these vocal cords may rarely or never present with lymph nodes involved. Although subglottic cancers are rare, they can spread.
